Travis County Assistant DA Arrested For Aggravated Assault With A Deadly Weapon

This is just a weird story.

Travis County Assistant District Attorney Joe Frederick was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after threatening to shoot his roommate, according to the arrest affidavit.

The affidavit says that a guest was visiting Frederick on Friday afternoon, June 7, at his apartment in west Austin. According to the documents, Frederick had been having difficulty streaming pornography on the TV in his apartment, and asked his roommate to fix the issue.

So here’s a 51 year old Assistant DA, who’s worked in the DA’s office for 17 years, he lives in an apartment with a roommate, and his idea of entertainment for a visiting guest is to stream pornography. Which he evidently has trouble viewing, so he demands his roommate help fix the issue.

A whole bunch of things don’t seem to be adding up here.

According to the court documents, after the guest left, Frederick accused his roommate of making “googly eyes” at the guest, suggesting jealousy. This upset his roommate due to him feeling like he was being called a “hoe.”

Does rather sound like a gay lover’s spat than an ordinary roommate fight, doesn’t it?

This escalated into an argument and an exchange of insults; the roommate tried to knock over a TV stand but was stopped by Frederick. The roommate then went back into his bedroom and locked the door to avoid further conflict.

Frederick attempted to force his roommate’s bedroom door open, damaging the door while doing so. Eventually, the roommate opened the door to use the bathroom, finding Frederick standing in the hallway pointing a gun at him.

Here’s where Frederick not only violated Jeff Cooper’s rules, but kicked it up into clear felony territory.

According to the affidavit, the roommate reported that Frederick made statements to him saying “Get away from me” and “You’re a danger to yourself and everyone around you.” The roommate went to the bathroom, observing Frederick going inside of his (the roommate’s) bedroom and closing the door.

The affidavit says the roommate then opened his bedroom door, pushing Frederick backwards. The roommate reported that Frederick raised the revolver and pointed it at his roommate’s face, saying “I’ll shoot you.” The roommate then began to record Frederick’s actions.

The affidavit says that the video footage shows Joesph holding the revolver while walking around the living room area, telling his roommate to “Get the f— out.” It also says that Frederick is heard accusing his roommate of pushing him, and that the gun is self-defense.

Police recovered the revolver as they investigated the incident. The affidavit says the revolver was fully loaded.

No injuries were reported.

The 51-year-old Assistant District Attorney was booked into the Travis County jail at 3:49 a.m. on Saturday, June 8. His bail was set at $10,000.

Frederick is out of jail as of Sunday, June 9.

None of this is what I would classify as “normal behavior.” I’m guessing intoxicating substances may have been involved.

What is it about that Travis County DA’s office that drives people mad? First Rosemary Lehmberg drives around with an open bottle of vodka, now this. (Current Soros-backed hard left DA Jose Garza entered office already mad.)

Is Frederick a Democrat? Well, his LinkedIn page says he was “Intern, Michael Madigan Speaker of Illinois House of Representatives” back when he was in college, and Michael Madigan is not only a Democrat, he remained Illinois Speaker until 2021, was widely perceived to run “The Combine,” one of the most corrupt political machines in America, and goes on trial for federal racketeering charges later this year. But Frederick’s intern job was all the way back in 1995, so maybe it’s wrong to assume his political affiliation from that. People generally don’t spend 17 years in the DA’s office if their goal is political power.

I wonder if the charge will get pled down, as so many felon charges do under Garza’s soft-on-crime regime, or if they’ll move the trial to another county.

Do they spend years in the DA’s office if they’re a patronage hire for a crony?

… I genuinely don’t know the answer, actually. I really don’t know how desirable these jobs are.

  2. Lawrence Person says:

DA jobs are not particularly desirable, mainly because there are a whole lot more lucrative positions for someone with a law degree.

Working in a DA’s office will get you a lot of trial experience in a very short period of time, but I get the impression that pay is low and burnout is high.

17 years strikes me as a really long time for a lawyer to work in a DA’s office. But IANAL and have never worked in one, so I’m not the best person to ask.

  3. Andy Markcyst says:

Not just a patronage crony, a homosexual crony, and an incompetent one at that @ 17 years. Forget it. It’s TravCo. What a sewer.

    Bail?

    BAIL??

You point a loaded gun at a person and you get bail?

  5. Lawrence Person says:

Under Soros-backed DA Jose Garza, felons are frequently released ,a href=”https://www.kvue.com/article/news/crime/travis-county-prosecutors-rejecting-criminal-cases/269-e8e9b982-19ff-400e-a61a-769828ca3342″>without any bail at all.

Couple of things to observe, here:

First, you see who these people actually are? And, they’ve been hired to work in the DA’s office…?

Why? Do I need to explain? Because they’re there to cover up their like-minded fellow-travelers actions, and to further their demented agenda.

None of these people are sane. Not a one… They can mimic sanity a little, but when you get down to it? They’re fundamentally f*cked in the head.

Let me tell you something that used to be fairly common knowledge, common sense: We did not discriminate against “teh gay” because they were gay; it was because of all the other constellation of mental issues that go with being gay. I’ve met maybe a couple of dozen “out” gays, over the years, gotten to know them well enough to appraise if they should be trusted and given responsibility. Of that number? Maybe one or two qualify for “trustworthy”. The rest are unabashed nutters with more issues than your local newspaper has in its archives.

And, we’ve been putting them into more and more positions, mostly at the behest and demands of other gays. You wonder why these things are getting so screwed up?

Look at Spokane: They’re investigating and indicting people for “defacing” a gay-colored crosswalk, while simultaneously not doing a damn thing to people defacing monuments to the fallen of various wars, and allowing felons to walk free without bail. You think any of that is accidental?

These people are all functionally insane, demonstrably so. They cannot discriminate between obvious illegality and that which merely offends their own sensibilities, so that’s how they behave in office, making decisions about who to prosecute and who not to. Few, if any, of the ANTIFA and BLM protestors of the last few years have faced any real consequence for their actions, so… Do the math. We’re going to see lots and lots more of it.

Where this ends is either anarchy and chaos, or in a future of dire repression. Alternatively, one hell of a lot of vigilantism.

I know several judges who started in the DAs Office. But the people who stay in the DAs Office (or Public Defender’s Office for that matter) either really love the work, and don’t necessarily need the money. Or they can’t get (or keep) a job in private practice.

“Do they spend years in the DA’s office if they’re a patronage hire for a crony?”

It depends by state. In some, they are civil service appointments, in others they are “At Will” appointments.

  9. Eric says:

I have no doubt the most this will end up as a misdemeanor, if not dismiss all together. As several commenters above the pointed out, he’s in at least two protected classes: Dem and DEI.

But what’s also noticeable, and will officially lead to the case being pled down, is that the roommate was not really afraid of being shot. He had multiple chances to call the cops and/or leave, and instead he hung around and even fired up his phone camera. He called the cops because he was annoyed, not because he thought he was in jeopardy.

They have gone through this ritual before, this is just the first time the cops got involved.

And Kirk is dead on about the “constellation of mental issues.” You dig hard enough, you will find out they were probably sexually abused as children as well.

I wonder if the “roommate” is also in the prosecutors office?

What that is, is enforcing blasphemy laws for a new State-established religion of Woke. Consider:
both Catholic priests and drag queens have documented cases of sex offenders among their ranks. But a public claim that priests are pedophile groomers is protected as free speech; the same claim that drag queens are pedophile groomers is persecuted as hate speech. The only difference is who/whom.
