Woman Goes To LAPD About Stolen Credit Card. One Of Them Stole It.

Here’s a short, scary video about a woman who’s had thousands of dollars charged to her stolen debit card. Both Citibank and LAPD were unhelpful.

Then she started investigating on her own, and discovered that store footage showed the perp was the LAPD officer she had handed her card to to bail out a relative.

She’s fortunate that the bad cop was stupid enough to carry out his shopping spree in stores with security cameras.

If you have to hand your credit or debit cards to someone, always make sure you get them back right after use.

    “LAPD”

This is not my shocked face.

  2. John says:

I don’t think this is what people meant when they said we need to refund the police.

“Both Citibank and LAPD were unhelpful.”

    Huh.

I have had a Citibank card for a couple decades now, and I have found them Johnny-on-the-spot for anything that even looks like fraud.

We chaptered a guy for racism, which aint at all easy to do. Dude had huge issues with blacks, hispanics, and everyone else that wasn’t “white”.

Coupla’ months after we escorted him to the gate, we got a letter requesting references from LAPD. He was attending the academy down there…

The upshot was that we sent off everything we had on him, they said “thank you”. And, hired him anyway. I saw him in the news feeds from the riots after the Rodney King thing, wearing corporal’s stripes. Not sure what rank that was in the LAPD, but he’d obviously been hired and had prospered…

LAPD has had issues for decades, going back ferf*ckingever…

Kirk says “we chaptered a guy.” Glad to know eubonics hasn’t died.

  6. Kirk says:

“Chaptered” is military jargon for discharge before your contract ends, at the government’s option. You can get a medical chapter, several varieties of disciplinary chapter, and ones for being unfit for service for whatever reason. They also cover things like fraudulent or mistaken enlistments.

Just about anyone with time the services would know precisely what I was talking about.

Is this guy really LAPD? Doesn’t the sheriff’s dept. handle the jails in Los Angeles?

  9. Your Majesty says:

Also: NEVER use a debit card other than for ATM withdrawals.

    Kirk, what branch, when?

  11. Lawrence Person says:

A lot of bank- or credit-union issued credit cards these days are both credit and debit cards.

  12. Greg says:

The title says “credit card” but the story actually says “debit card.” This is one reason why you never use debit cards. You have more legal liability, and even if the bank ultimately reimburses you, the money is gone until the investigation is over. With credit cards, you’re not out any money unless they find against you and you have to pay the credit card bill.

    @Foo,

25 years, Army, starting in the early 1980s. I was issued the “Elvis Collar” BDUs as initial issue, with OD green field jackets, to narrow that down w/out giving exact dates. Enlisted, retired as a SFC. I had an unfortunate habit of telling people what I thought, which didn’t help my promotion prospects to the upper ranks.

It really didn’t help that I was right, a lot of the time…
