Though it may take up to two weeks for all the flood waters to disappear, Houston is showing some signs of normalcy, such as opening most freeways. Governor Greg Abbott said that Harvey may have inflicted $180 billion in damage on the state.
More food recovery tidbits:
As thousands of private citizens bravely responded with their individually owned boats and resources to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey, nearby Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez waited to mobilize a single boat crew to assist with the disaster.
Sheriff Hernandez did not authorize mobilizing deputies to assist with rescue efforts until Wednesday – waiting on a formal ‘mutual aid request’ before mobilizing. The request guarantees that departments will be reimbursed for costs incurred and also serves as part of an organized effort.

Speaking of ‘Gas Buddy’ I’ve been watching gas station prices with Gas Buddy’s search set to search for updates 4 hours or less.
One station up here in RR, TX over the last ~48 hours has/had a continuous recently updated and insanely low price of Reg – $2.08. (I just updated it to the correct at the pump price) I decided to take a ride. When I got to the station regular at the pump was $2.39. Drove to another couple of gas stations listed as recently updated within the last four hours… At one station all the pumps with sleeved with those ‘out-of-service’ bags, at the other station regular was atleast $.20/gal higher than that recently posted on Gas Buddy.
In the case of the $2.08 listing noted above I don’t know what to think?
On the other hand, I speculate that in some cases Gas Buddy users are logging into their accounts and posting updated prices ‘to win points’ even when no gas is actually available. Then again, I’m pretty cynical regarding human nature, even with all the many positive aid and rescue stories coming from Houston at this time.
FWIW.
