The power came on back here about 6:30 AM. Now I need to take a long hot shower after giving the water time to warm up, then go through the fridge and freezer to determine what gets thrown out.
Expect slow and/or lazy blogging this weekend, followed by maybe a LinkSwarm on Monday on Monday, and then maybe a lessons learned post later in the week.

Glad the power is back and the warmth is coming.
My wife moved to the Austin area in 2016, I geo-bachelored until November 2019. Because of that I ensured her (now our) house had good security (alarms, cameras, mylar on windows, reinforced doors, extinguishers, etc), had 30 days of food and water onsite, and the mundane 870 and handgun. After ‘snowmegaddon’ a couple of years ago (during which son and his family were onsite) I picked up a large portable generator and run it 15 minutes every month as well.
Point is, reasonably prepared means almost nothing is an immediate crisis.
You aren’t helping my campaign to convince the wife to move to Texas.

My power was out for about a week after a weather disaster when I lived in another state years ago. I was ok because I went to stay with friends, but it made me decide to get a generator when I could. Fast forward to 2022. I finally got a stand by generator that runs off my natural gas line. It’s a tremendous feeling of relief & peace of mind. It’s still dependent on the gas line continuing to supply it, but I’m relieved to have some protection against our increasingly shaky electrical grid.
If this is an option for you, please consider it. A portable generator would be good to consider if you don’t have a gas line or don’t want to invest in the cost of a whole house unit.
KVUE is reporting that Austin Energy does not think power will be fully restored until Sunday, 2/12. Typical Austin efficiency. So glad we moved 6 years ago.

I can’t help but think, being the Energy Capital of the country, we ought to have our act together. Not only that, but so well designed and managed that even the leftoids running parts of it can’t fuck it up.
Winter Storm Uri didn’t help Abbot, Cruz, Patrick, etc keep up the appearance that Texas knows how to do things better.
Refrigerators that run on either electricity or propane exist, but are expensive…
If all you are trying to run is a fridge, then a small generator and a decent supply of fuel – and a very long extension cord – works (ask me how I know)
My nephew lives in a place where they have – or had anyway – somewhat frequent outages. He went for the whole house generator. VERY expensive.
