Liveblogging the 2022 Election

Tuesday, November 8th, 2022

Right now Republicans in 2022 are looking like a Kickstarter that hit their initial funding ask, but didn’t hit any of their stretch goals…

Republican John Kennedy avoids a runoff in Louisiana. NY Post/RCP: “Republicans were expected to pick up three Senate seats from Democrats, gaining a 53-47 majority after two years out of power, according to the latest projection by RealClearPolitics. The same outlet predicts the GOP will regain their House majority by winning at least 227 seats.”

“Democratic Rep. Elaine Luria has lost her bid for re-election in Virginia’s 2nd congressional district to Republican State Sen. Jen Kiggans. Luria, a veteran naval officer, was elected to the House of Representatives as part of a Democratic wave in 2018. In the past year, she has risen in prominence as a member of the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol.”

Yeah, you can see how important voters found the January 6 farce.

Going off to walk my dogs. Republicans had a good night, and will likely take the House and Senate, but not any better than you might expect in a regular midterm, and not nearly as much as you might expect with a president as unpopular as Biden.

Beto concedes. So long, and thanks for the $160 million!

Cahill, U.S. Marshall. Must be George Kennedy Night.

Paxton back up over Garza.

Beto O’Rourke’s livecam is running on a 56K modem.

Abbott giving a victory speech.

J. D. Vance projected winner in Ohio, and flip from the way-to-early returns.

Republicans behind in those south Texas US congressional seats.

Walker leading Warnock in GA. According to Telemundo. Because with mute, it isn’t any less informative.

The ABC network dude looks like he has a haircut from Frank Gehry.

Ha! DeSantis is WALLOPING Charlie Crist, 60%-40%

So far not a good night for Republicans in Arizona.

Eric Scmitt wins in Missouri.

Chris Sununu looks like football pundit Peter King.

Honestly, I’m seeing a red wave, but not the red tsunami some were predicting in the last week.

Williamson County judge too close to call. Possibly headed to a runoff.

Dan Patrick now up much more substantially in TXLT GOV race.

Kemp wins in Georgia. Barring any 3 AM pipe breaks.

Unfortunately, the Social Justice Warrior slate is up in RRISD races.

Six years later, and we’re still laughing at the Jeb! meme.

Pause while I get the doggies some food.

OMG! Ron Paul is up 3 points!

Now Patrick is leading Collier.

KVUE is talking as though Beto might win. Nah, he’s toast.

Austin commie twerp Greg Cesar is headed to the U.S. House. On behalf of Texas, we apologize in advance.

Garza up just slightly over Paxton. Still early.

KVUE’s team is sortof crap, but still better than anything else on.

Abbott only wolloping Bobby Francis by 8 points right now.
Collier/Patrick tied for Texas Lt. Gov. right now. Early votes tend to favor Dems, though.

Looking like an Israel-Watson runoff in Austin mayor’s race.

Democratic incumbent Bennet, he of the Presidential flameout, up big in Colorado.

Election coverage, or the car wash scene from Cool Hand Luke? Circle, verily you tempt me!

The people of News 24 are really blathering.

Back. Had to lightly punch someone up request.

Guam goes Republican!

Sununu, DeSantis and Rubio all winning headily.

Scury County recording ZERO votes for Dan Patrick? I call Shenanigans.

VA7 flipping red.

Chip Roy is crushing his opponent right now.

Too early for meaningful Texas results.

Stand by. We’re on the air.

CNN’s exit polls are disasterous for Democrats.

Charlie Crist: Less popular than Jeb!

Back from voting. I’ve never seen higher turnout for a midterm, and possibly never higher turnout even for a Presidential year.

“In a shocking turn of events, data analysts at Fox News have called the gubernatorial race in Arizona for Stacey Abrams.”

538 now gives Dr. Oz the edge over Fetterman. But is it beyond the range of Philadelphia fraud?

Liveblogging the 2020 Election

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020

OK, it’s almost 12:30 AM, and here’s the way I see it:

Georgia and Montana are gimmes for Trump.

Trump will win Pennsylvania; I think he’s up some 700,000 votes, too far beyond the margin of fraud
Trump will win Michigan: he’s up 280,000 votes there
Trump will win North Carolina; he’s up over 100,000 with over 99% of the vote in.

That’s enough to put him over the top.

Trump is up over 100,000 over Wisconsin. But he doesn’t even need that to win if the above are correct.

I predict President Trump has been reelected.

Trump is up some 675,000 votes in Pennsylvania.

That may be a lead outside the range of fraud.

Trump’s total in Pennsylvania just keeps going up.

ABC finally admits that Trump won Florida.

Trump still up in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Jodi Ernst wins.

John James (R) up 330,000 in MI SEN.

Trump still up in Virginia.

Hmmm:

Trump still up in Michigan.

Texas House not flipping.

Trump back up in Iowa.

  • Trump still winning Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Biden finally up in Maine, but Susan Collins looks headed to reelection.

    Counterpoint:

  • Decision Desk calls Ohio for Trump.

They’re calling Arizona to Biden. That’s a pickup for him.

Chip Roy takes the lead over Wendy Davis.

    M.J. Hegar concedes in TX-SEN.

Biden up in Iowa, Trump up in Michigan and Virginia.

    Trump up HUGE in Pennsylvania,

This is a weird election to figure out.

Trump up by 40,000 votes in North Carolina.

WAY up in Pennsylvania with 30+% of the vote in.

ABC projecting Biden takes New Hampshire.

Many, CBS Austin has some amazingly bad kerning on “2020.”

Chip Roy back within 2000 votes of Wendy Davis.

    Biden up in Arizona.

Trump up in Wisconsin with 30% of the vote in.

Republican John James is up BIG in Michigan.

Trump seems to be running ahead of where he was in 2016 in Florida and Michigan, and behind where he was in Texas and Ohio.

Biden under-performing Beto in Hays and Williamson counties.

Lindsey Graham up in South Carolina.

Trump still up by 17 points in Michigan.

CNN Promises Not To Call The Race Unless Biden Is Ahead

Trump takes North Dakota, South Carolina.

Crenshaw winning, Hunt behind by 7,000 votes.

ABC Projects John Cornyn wins TX SEN.

McCaul up by only 2% in TX10.

Gonzalez (R) still ahead in TX-23.

Chip Roy behind with 56% of the vote in for TX-21.

    John Carter winning in TX-31.

Strike that. Trump finally up in Texas.

Trump leading in Michigan, Biden up slightly in Texas, but way too early to call.

Williamson County Sheriff Chody (R) going down to defeat.

Some talk of Biden overperforming in Ohio with 50% of the vote in.

Biden pulling in a whopping 28% in Arkansas. 9% in.

    Virginia in play?

Trump up by 18% in Michigan, but only 8% of vote in,

    Perdue is slaughtering Ossoff.

Bad bad boys, or more Philly vote fraud.

    Cocaine Mitch wins.

    Also Haggerty:

    Austin update:

Crap. Prop A is leading and Prop B has passed.

Casar winning, alas. But Flannigan is heading for a runoff.

    Fox calls Indiana for Trump.

    Florida news:

That’s Florida at 54%, but NC at only 1% results, so they’re not exactly equal.

6:08 PM CST: Some early calls:

    Vermont goes to Biden.

Expect the newest updates up top.

Just a placeholder now. I’ll get started in earnest after 7 PM or so.

  • Liveblogging the 2018 Election

    Tuesday, November 6th, 2018

AZ, NV and MT Senate races all too close to call, but Republicans are leading in all three right now.

I’m out of gas and heading to bed. Analysis tomorrow.

Wisconsin Gov still too close to call.

    Takeaways seems to be:

  • Republicans tighten grip on senate
  • Democrats take the House.
  • Dumptrucks full of outside money and a good candidate can almost make Texas competitive.
  • Claire McCaskill concedes.

    Dems pick up Iowa 1.
    John Carter still up.

    Democrats pick up OK5.

PBS praising Bloomberg for airdropping outside money into races.

Scott Walker’s Gov race too close to call.

Culberson looking like he’s going to lose.

Never mind the election, Vincent Price is on the Carol Burnet Show on MeTV!

Texas Lt. Gov Dan Patrick wins by six points, AG Ken Paxton by 4 points.

McCaskill goes down, Heitkamp went down. “Just like the old Gypsy woman said!”

Ted Cruz victory speech. He sounds really horse. Compliments O’Rourke on a hard-run race.

“All the money in Hollywood couldn’t beat the good people of Texas!”

Charlie Baker (R) reelected Governor of Massachusetts.

    Culberson behind in TX07.

Nate Silver’s algorithm has evidently gone rogue. He’s now having to pull glowing memory sticks out of HAL.

My state Rep. Tony Dale, currently behind John Bucy. Williamson County has gotten a lot more purple, alas.

All republicans winning Texas statewide races, but more narrowly than expected. That Bobby Francis money is having a real effect.

    McMaster (R) wins SC Gov.

Dems have picked up most of the PA redistricted competitive seats, but Republicans just got one.

ABC projects Ted Cruz to win Texas!

Texas Governor Greg Abbott speaking. Victory speech.

NBC thinks Dems take the House.

McSally up over MethLab in AZ.

My congressmen, John Carter (R) up, but only by 2 points.

Incumbent Democrats Sherrod Brown (OH) and Bob Casey (PA) projected as winners.

Bob Sleazoid (D) declared winner in NJ Sen.

    Cruz now up 10,000 votes.

    Cruz 6,000 votes behind O’Rourke, 73% in.

Cruz/O’Rourke virtually tied with 72% of vote in, with Midland/Odessa still out.

O’Rourke up with 70% of the vote in. It would obviously be a huge upset if it holds. But I’m not sure 70% of thevote is actully in.

Lindsey Graham (R-Like A Boss) on NBC.

    CBS calling WV for Manchin.

Bob Schiffer says “The Senate is moving not only in Republican’s direction, but Trump’s direction.”

Marsha Blackburn (R) called the winner in Tennessee.

Cruz up by only 3% over O’Rourke. Hmmm.
Braun declared winner over Donnelly. The last Stupak Bloc Flipper goes DOWN.

    They thawed out Tom Brokow.

Election watching Rich: “I haven’t been this excited since Hillary Clinton won the White House.”

Manchin (D) holding on in WV.

“For the first time in Georgia, we have a progressive Democrat running in Georgia.” And she’s getting WHOMPED.

They called KY for Barr (R) over McGarth (D), the candidate the MSM kept lauding. Suggests Dems won’t take house.

Dave Brat still up by 1 pioint, 86% in.

Stacey Abrams still getting walloped in Georgia,

Hugin up by 4 point over Sleazeball (NJ). 6% in.

DeSantis (R) up narrowly in Florida.

Hugin (R) winning narrowly over Sleazebag (D) in New Jersey, 1% in.
Hawley walloping Planetoid Claire, but only 1% in there as well.

    PBS: “No blue wave.”

Frum Brooks has arms crossed on PBS. Not looking happy.

    Wow:

Stacey Abrams (D) losing big early, but only 2% in.

Braun still up 16 points with 27% in.

Nancy Pelosi on PBS. Looks like she’s had another round of Botox.

Republican Greg Pence, older brother of VP Mike pence, has reportedly been elected to Indiana’s 6th congressional district. (via Twitter)

    Florida Sen: Scott (R) 50.5%, Nelson (D) 49.5%, 4% in, via RCP.

Indiana: Braun 58% to Donnelly’s 38% with 10% in (via PBS)
No, delusional PBS host, O’Rourke did NOT run a negative-free campaign.

5:50 PM: First results from Indiana via Real Clear Politics: “Donnelly 34.7, Braun 61.3, Brenton 4.0” with 2% reporting (presumably some early voting results).

Just a placeholder for now, but I expect to start liveblogging/livetweeting the 2018 election starting at 7 PM CST.

    LiveBlogging/LiveTweeting the Election

    Tuesday, November 6th, 2012

Congratulations to Ted Cruz and Tony Dale on well-deserved victories!

And on that bit of good news, off to sleep…

    Weber beats Lampson in CD14.

Obama 303, Romney 203, Florida and Alaska undecided. And Obama is edging Romney in the popular vote as well, but not by much.

Fox calls election for Obama. Still not sure I trust the Wisconsin call. It looks like Romney may very well win the popular vote. Even so, I still don’t believe in abolishing the electoral college.

Fox calls Ohio for Obama. That may be all she wrote.

    All annoying local news now.

    PBS calls Iowa for Obama.

Obama still up .5% in Florida with 94% of the vote in.

    Florida, Florida, Florida.

Any way this turns out, this is 1% difference election.

No, Romney playing the bio film at the GOP convention wouldn’t have made any difference.

AP RACE CALL: Romney wins North Carolina.

Maybe we should have nominated #Hypnotoad.

David Brooks (click) Elizabeth Warren (click) Crowd interview (click) Grrrrr

Whether Obama wins or not, GOP house should refuse to pass a debt limit increase, and force government to live within it’s means.

    Hit my tweet limit!

[Swing state name here] Too close to call. Repeat as necessary.

Looks like it’s going to be a long night before this thing is decided.

7:23 Romney up in VA, FL too close to call, but Panhandle polls close late, and that’s Romney territory.

Everything in the battleground states is too close to call.

    6:50 PM
ROMNEY: Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, South Carolina
    OBAMA:Vermont

#ElectionNightSurprises: Fox News calls race for Obama, ABC for Romney, CBS for Gary Johnson, CNN for Jill Stein, and MSNBC for the reanimated corpse of Howard Taft

Please note that I will be live-blogging and live-tweeting the election tonight as the returns roll in starting around 7 PM CST. Judging from my live-tweeting of the debates, there’s a good chance I’ll “exceed the tweet limit”, so you’ll want to check both places for pithy insight and wily snark.

Liveblogging the Texas Senate Debate Friday, April 13, 7 PM

    Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

    I’m livebloggiong the debate here.

This is announcement that I will be attempting to liveblog the Texas Senate debate happening this Friday, April 13, at 7 PM CDT.

Some of the things I’ll be looking at most keenly:

  • David Dewhurst’s performance: As the only one of the four major Republican candidates I haven’t interviewed, I’m interested in seeing how Dewhurst performs; several commentator’s dinged him for slow, hesitant answers the last time he attended one of these.
  • Ted Cruz hitting Dewhurst over the Payroll Tax: I’m hoping a lively exchange between the two may clarify the “was Dewhurst proposing a state income tax or not” question.
  • Whether Dewhurst will try to ding Cruz over his law firm work for a Chinese company (weak sauce) or work for George Soros by other members of the firm (non-existent sauce).
  • Will anyone bring up Leppert playing footsies with ACORN and gay rights organizations while he was mayor of Dallas? Or, for that matter, anything concerning his record as mayor?
  • Will Craig James bring up more policy specifics than he has before? Not any area of strength for the James campaign so far.
  • As for Senate debate drinking games, sip every time:

  • James says “real street.”
  • Cruz says “proven conservative.”
  • Leppert or Dewhurst says “businessman.”
  • Anyone but Cruz says “I’m not a lawyer…”
  • Chug when:

  • James uses a football metaphor.
  • Leppert says “I don’t speak in 30 second sound bites.”
  • Cruz or Dewhurst mentions their fathers.
