Ten Years of Blogging

Tuesday, October 15th, 2019

My first post here on BattleSwarm was October 14, 2009, following Dwight’s lead, and only a day after my non-political blog. (Funny how Dwight and I and Borepatch all started blogging within a year of each other. Almost as if something happened around that time that compelled us to jump in…)

Here’s a quick Whitman sampler/greatest hits list from those halcyon days of yore:

  1. How Many People Did Communism Kill?
  2. WisCon’s Feminist Failfandom Brigade Gets My Locus April Fool’s Piece Taken Down (an early brush with what would come to be known as Social Justice Warriors)
  3. BattleSwarm Blog Endorses Ted Cruz for United States Senator
  4. Assault Weapons Vital Topic Among America’s 23 Million Unemployed.
  5. Someone in the Travis County Sheriff’s Office Must Really Hate Rosemary Lehmberg. (Featuring the Democratic Travis County’s DWI arrest video, now with old dead video replaced.) “CALL GREG!”
  6. The Decline and Fall of the Austin-American Statesman. I’m sure their circulation has fallen even further…
  7. Sad Puppies, If I Must.
  8. Raqqa Liberated. One from a long series of widely ignored posts on the war against the Islamic State…
  9. Clinton Corruption Update: The Converging (the most popular entry in a long-running series)
  10. It’s the Smug.
  11. Turmoil in the NRA.
  12. The very first post of what would become the Democratic Presidential Clown Car Update.

Thanks for coming along for the ride. Some day, I might even move off the default WordPress theme!

Now if I could only make the blogroll for Instapundit or Ace of Spades…

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

Sunday, January 1st, 2017

I’m proud to announce that BattleSwarm Blog has been named to The Fabulous 50 Blog List by Director Blue.

Quote:

Thanks! And there are a lot of other great blogs in the fab 50 list worth checking out.

If You’re Wondering Why Stuff From Hsoi is Down…

Monday, January 5th, 2015

this news story should answer the question.

Short summary: John Daub, AKA Hsoi, had to fatally shoot a home invader who turned out to be autistic. It sounds like a justified shooting, but I’m sure one of the first things a defense attorney would say is “Take your gun blog down now.” Especially since he lives in Travis County.

(I don’t know Daub personally, but he’s on the blogroll, we follow each other on Twitter, and we both know the folks at KR Training.)

(Hat tip: Dwight via email.)

A Good List of Conservative Texas Blogs

Tuesday, December 4th, 2012

This list of conservative blogs in Texas is well worth taking a look at. For starters, I’m in there, which means it passes the first-cut test.

I hope to take a good look at all of these when I have some time with an eye toward updating the blogroll.

Blogroll Additions: UrbanGrounds

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

The latest blogroll addition is UrbanGrounds written by Robbie Cooper, “a conservative, a biker, a Veteran, a professional writer, and a blogging enthusiast in the heart of uber-Liberal Austin, TX.” It has a nice mix of local and national news that’s well worth checking out.

Blogroll Additions: An American Housewife, Formerly in London

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

I’ve been meaning to update the blog roll for a while, so now’s as good a time as any.

Today’s addition is An American Housewife, Formerly in London. She spent five years in London, then moved back to Houston, and blogs about a variety of issues, both personal and political, from the expat (and repat) life and mothering to the latest Obama idiocy.

Anyway, she’s been linking and dropping into BattleSwarm with useful comments for a while now, so I’m happy to return the favor. Do drop by when you get a chance.

Snowflakes in Hell is Now Shall Not Be Questioned

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

They changed over a couple of days ago.

I have mixed feelings. Certainly anyone can change the name of their own blog, but I think the old name was more distinctive, and I can’t say I’m a fan of the redesign. The colonial typeface and sepia feel is not as instantly readable as the old version.

Adding Stuff from Hsoi to the Blogroll

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

A new addition to the gun blog list is Stuff from Hsoi.

I first came across his blog with a link to this unnerving account of a “flash mob,” (i.e., a gang of black teenagers) smashing windows and looting cars in a suburban cul-de-sac in north Austin.

Doing another search today, I found out that Hsoi is employed my friend Karl Rehn at KRTraining, and that gives me a handy excuse to put him on the list.

Blogrolling In Our Times

Friday, July 8th, 2011

Today Matt S. Dowling named BattleSwarm his blog of the week. Thanks!

This inspired me to finally get up off my lazy ass and add two of the three blogs I’d been thinking about adding to my blogroll anyway:

  • Matt S. Dowling (wow, I bet you never saw that coming), who has been doing a lot of good pieces on the Texas senate race (including some of the Tom Leppert-related stories I’ve posted here).
  • Merv at Prairie Pundit, who’s been blogging up a storm from the wilds of Washington, Texas for several years now.
  • And the third blog I was thinking about adding, but won’t right now? That would be The Race to Replace Kay Baily Hutchison, a blog focused on the Texas Senate race that I used to check every day for updates…but there hasn’t been one since June 2. I’d be happy to add it if posts start up again, but a month’s silence isn’t getting the job done…

    Updated the Blog Roll

    Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

I’ve added a few more sites to the blog roll, especially those focusing on local politics and gun rights. So feel free to give them some sweet link-clicking goodness.
