So where are those violent mobs of Americans attacking Muslims the media keeps implying are common? Nowhere to be found.

It takes some chutzpah to lobby against voter ID bills when you’ve already been convicted of voter fraud.

Working on a major senate race post, so enjoy another Friday LinkSwarm:
Maureen Dowd has a fairly limited range of issues upon which she’s actually worth reading, but the personal scandals of sleazy corrupt politicians (in this case the John Edwards trial) is well within that range.
Obama is now as unpopular among independents as Democrats were during the 2010 election.
“This Sunday marks exactly three years since the Democratic majority in the Senate last passed a budget, on April 29, 2009.”
Hispanics overwhelmingly oppose laws against illegal aliens. And by “overwhelmingly” I mean “within the margin of error.”

NYT notices that liberals are driving Blue Dogs out of the Democratic party. Though I don’t seem to remember them running articles on how “Redistricting has been bad for the country” back when Democrats were the one with the Gerrymandered majority…
The public employee union aristocracy is on the ballot in Wisconsin.
The Las Vegas gambling industry just invested a lot of money in Texas House speaker Joe Straus. Err, that is to say, in his family’s business.
And remember, to stay Speaker, Straus not only has to fend of his own primary challenger, he also has to help out his committee chairmen.
Texas Democratic State Representative Ron Reynolds is charged with barratry, which seems to be “a lawyer being a dick just to get business.” The fact that Reynolds himself voted in favor of the law he’s now charged with is just the cherry on top.

LinkSwarm, or EuroDoom? LinkSwarm, or EuroDoom? Well, the first link has some of each, but with Davos just starting up, I imagine their will be a nice helping of EuroDoom ready to serve tomorrow, so let’s put up a LinkSwarm today:

Fact: They had already agreed to a divorce, Newt was just visiting her, the tumor was benign, and Jackie Battley Gingrich is still alive. But who are you going to believe: Online liberal trolls, or the daughter who was actually in the hospital room at the time?
Borepatch says that Gingrich is particular effective at demolishing the Left’s Thought-terminating cliches.
Larry Elder lists all the things Gingrich can nail Obama and the media on.
Jonah Goldberg discusses Newtzilla, but his best barbs are reserved for his opponent: “Romney seems like a creature put on Earth to blend in with the humans and report back what he finds. He clearly likes earthlings, and they in turn find him pleasant enough and surprisingly lifelike.”
Maureen Dowd on on Obama’s cocoon of self-aggrandizing victimization. Like all Dowd’s columns, it focuses on the trivial minutia of the-personal-as-political…and is all the more devastating for it. “The man who came to Washington on a wave of euphoria has had a presidency with all the joy of a root canal…The Obamas, especially Michelle, have radiated the sense that Americans do not appreciate what they sacrifice by living in a gilded cage. They’ve forgotten Rule No. 1 of politics: No one sheds tears for anyone lucky enough to live at the White House. And after four or eight years of public service, you are assured membership in the 1 percent club.”
After 12 months, what has the Arab Spring wrought in Egypt? Cairo Winter: “The reality of the past twelve months, however, has undone whatever high hopes one might have held. Egypt is now headed for radical theocratic, rather than liberal democratic, rule. And a befuddled Obama administration has failed to do anything to stop the coming disaster.” (Hat tip: Michael Totten, who adds: “I know a few Egyptian intellectuals and activists who are authentic liberals, but they’re not remotely a majority. The percentage of Egyptians who genuinely support most or all the tenets of Western-style liberal democracy is in the high single digits at best.”)

- It must be hard for the New York City teacher’s union, the United Federation of Teachers, to make ends meet, what with the $183,603 per year they have to pay for office space. That is to say, their office space in Boca Raton, Florida.
- “Environmentalists, like feminists, are just another arm of the Democratic establishment: ‘running dogs’ to be loosed or reined in as politics require. It is thus unnecessary to pay attention to what they say, since it’s just politics anyway.”

- When you’re Barack Obama, and Maureen Dowd (of all people) says that Joe Biden (of all people) has better relations with the press than you do, you may have a problem. Also this about Obama: “he is an elitist, too, as well as thin-skinned and controlling.” However, I’m not buying Dowd’s attempts to defuse the “media as Obama worshipers” problem: “The press traveling with Obama on the campaign never had a lovey-dovey relationship with him. He treated us with aloof correctness, and occasional spurts of irritation.” However, if that was the case, I don’t recall seeing a single report from the mainstream media in all of 2008 that mentioned it, which rather confirms the idea that the media buried any negative reporting during the campaign because of ideological solidarity and wanting him to win, doesn’t it?
- California’s Proposition 14 may have just insured that Green and Libertarian Party candidates never get on the general election ballot.
- Wednesday before Dutch election: Geert Wilders is irrelevant. Friday after Dutch election: Geert Wilders is a kingmaker.
