Git, if you are unfamiliar with it, is a software source control program, allowing you to check code (and other things; I’ve used it for documentation) in and out of a repository, which can be either local or remote.
GitHub is (for now) the most popular remote repository for Git. You can either put all your code in a public repository for free, or in a private repository for a modest per-user fee. GitHub makes its money off bells and whistles for private repositories.
Now comes word that GitHub’s “Social Impact Team” has decided “We don’t want any of those stinking white people here.” “It is very hard to even interview people who are ‘white’ which makes things challenging.”
Git and GitHub got to be where they are today because they’re both free-ish, but also because they’re deeply beloved of open source programmers not deterred by the steep learning curve of Git’s command-line-fu. But open source programmers, in addition to being distinctly pale of hue on average, tend to hate Social Justice Warrior types, if the comments on the SJW threads the “new” Slashdot keeps trying to cram down their reader’s throats on a regular basis is any indication.
Since Git (the program) isn’t limited to any particular repository, it’s fairly easy (remembering, always, that everything about Git falls into two general categories: trivial (because you’ve memorized and mastered the syntax) and impossible (because you haven’t)) to move your existing code to a new repository. And there are plenty of GitHub competitors, including a new one from Google.
No wonder GitHub is suffering an exodus of talent…

Anonymous goes to war, at least in cyberspace:
Islamic State sympathizers using social media to spread propaganda and recruit fighters are now drawing an increasing amount of return fire from activists who have been knocking some sites offline and infiltrating others.
The loose hacking collective Anonymous is the latest to draw attention to such campaigns, with members claiming credit this week for having thousands of pro-IS Twitter (TWTR.N) accounts disabled.
This is not the first time that Anonymous has taken down Islamic State Twitter accounts, as they did so on a wide scale in Operation #TangoDown back in May.
Will this effort actually damage the Islamic State? Well, slightly, which is to say it will do a damn site more than peace signs with Eiffel Towers or overlaying your icon with a French flag, meaningless feel-good displacement gestures liberals use rather than admitting to themselves they’re doing absolutely nothing to fight radical Islam…

So Hillary’s Super Secret Secure Server was actually hosted on the same server as the not secret and not particularly secure Clinton Foundation email system.
Which means any hacker that could pwn the Clinton Foundation server (and why wouldn’t they?) could almost certainly pwn Hillary’s private e-mail server, chock full of illegal classified national security information, through any number of exploits or privilege escalation attacks.
And evidently she was running her emails off an Exchange 2010 Server, which meant it was running on top of Windows, which means there were no end of exploits by which a dedicated hacker could gain control.
“Oh hey! I’m hosting this list of ISIS secret agents on my Doom III deathmatch server! I’m sure there’s no way that could possibly backfire on me!”
Or to put it in non-computer terms, she was storing classified information in an unlocked tin box under her bed that everyone in her neighborhood also knew contained bundles of unmarked $100 bills, and she was just hoping no one broke in.
She’s a major security risk that should never, ever be in the oval office…

It looks like hackers have dumped everything they stole from affair/scam/blackmail site Ashley Madison, which comes to a hefty 10 gigs of compressed data, including:
user names, first and last names, and hashed passwords for 33 million accounts, partial credit card data, street names, and phone numbers for huge numbers of users, records documenting 9.6 million transactions, and 36 million email addresses. While much of the data is sure to correspond to anonymous burner accounts, it’s a likely bet many of them belong to real people who visited the site for clandestine encounters. For what it’s worth, more than 15,000 of the e-mail addresses are hosted by US government and military servers using the .gov and .mil top-level domains.
The leak also includes PayPal accounts used by Ashley Madison executives, Windows domain credentials for employees, and a large number of proprietary internal documents. Also found: huge numbers of internal documents, memos, org charts, contracts, sales techniques, and more.
Maybe Ashley Madison should close up shop now and save itself the trouble of waiting until the lawsuits force them into bankruptcy.

Here’s something that falls into the category of “undernews,” i.e. potential significant events occurring below the detectable threshold of the mainstream media.
Hacking group Anonymous (or a certain fraction thereof; things are always murky in the cyberunderground) have decided to purge Twitter of ISIS supporters in Operation #TangoDown.
This follows ISIS threatening to kill Twitter employees over blocking ISIS-related accounts.
Within seconds of Anonymous-related accounts @CtrlSec, @CtrlSec0, @CtrlSec1 or @CtrlSec2 designating a Twitter account as an ISIS-supporting account, those accounts are getting suspended.
This follows previous pro-Islamic website hacking attacks, and resulting Anonymous counterattacks, following the Charlie Hebdo attack.
One need not approve of all Anonymous’ actions (they’ve targeted Israel over Gaza) to see the elimination of the accounts of several thousand (my estimate) supporters of a designated terrorist irganization as a good thing.
If members of the Islamic State really want to live in the 7th century, they should just step away from Twitter (and computers, and cell phones, and indoor plumbing) entirely…

All those Harvard professors supporting ObamaCare are shocked to discover they’re paying for it.

A majority of the GOP gains since then have come from the Democrats’ near-total collapse in one set of districts: the largely blue-collar places in which the white share of the population exceeds the national average, and the portion of whites with at least a four-year college degree is less that the national average. From Milo Yiannopoulos comes the story of the man who taught Shanley Kane how to troll.
San Francisco-based feminist troll Shanley Kane is a racist “full of hatred” who as recently as 2012 expressed disgust at interracial relationships and who uses racially-charged epithets to describe black people, a former boyfriend has claimed.
“I’ve never made a sincere apology in my entire life, ”Andrew Auernheimer told Breitbart in an explosive interview that makes outrageous claims about Kane’s racist past. “The public largely despises me for my political views—I’m one of the most visible and public advocates of white nationalism—and my position as the world’s most notorious Internet troll. But I’ve never done anything that I think I should be sorry for, with one exception: for a few short months, I dated Shanley Kane, the technology industry’s feminist antagonist, and I taught her Internet trolling.”
Auernheimer says that Shanley frequently shared his racist and antisemitic views while they were dating.
Others may look at this as just a case of two horrible people hooking up together, but I choose to look at another way, the Hollywood way: as a sitcom waiting to happen.
He’s a vicious racist.
She’s the Queen of the Feminist technology trolls.
When they get together as broke roommates in trendy San Francisco, the insults will fly—and LOVE will bloom!

The usual Social Justice Warrior types have been talking about how High tech is a “hostile environment” for women. But as this piece by a woman who learned her chops in the hacker culture makes clear, the people who really ruined women’s careers in programming were feminists.
Open source was my refuge because it was a place were nobody cared what my pedigree was or what I looked like—they cared only about what I did. I ingratiated myself to people who could help me learn by doing dull scutwork: triaging issues to keep the issue queues neat and orderly, writing documentation and fixing code comments. I was the helpful kid, so when I needed help, the community was there. I’d never met another programmer in real life at this point, but I knew more about programming than some college students.
But then feminists ruined everything. Some choice quotes:

“I’m not young or impressionable enough to listen to the likes of the Ada Initiative who’d have me passive-aggressively redcarding anyone who bothers me or feeling like every male is a threat, or that every social conflict I have is because of my sex.”
“‘Male privilege is a way to say ‘you are guilty because you don’t have boobs, feel ashamed, even if you did nothing wrong.'”
I disagree with some points (I think the influence of fashion dolls and like like in shaping girl’s choices (rather that reflecting existing preferences) somewhat overrated), but it’s still worth reading the whole thing.
